Barbin announces $35,583 grant to Johnstown Area Heritage Association

HARRISBURG, May 31 – State Rep. Bryan Barbin, D-Cambria/Somerset, today announced the award of a $35,583 grant from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission to the Johnstown Area Heritage Association.

Barbin said the Cultural and Historical Support Grant comes from a five-year-old program designed to strengthen Pennsylvania’s museum community, by supporting general operations of eligible museums and official county historical societies not supported by other state agency funding.

“These state funds will help ensure the continued vitality of the Johnstown Area Heritage Association, which is a huge asset to our city, county and region,” Barbin said. “I’m pleased to see an entity from our area receiving a significant award from the available grant money.”

The maximum any museum could receive under the program is $50,000, Barbin said.

Barbin noted that the grants are available only to:

  • Museums located in Pennsylvania with annual operating budgets exceeding $100,000 (excluding capital and in-kind services) and at least one full-time professional staff person.

  • Official county historical societies designated as the official historical society for the county.
