Rep. Elisabeth Bennington (D-21, Allegheny) attended Chatham College after receiving a drama
scholarship and in 1997 received her undergraduate degree in
psychology. She attended law school at Duquesne University,
where she earned her juris doctorate in 2000.
While in law school, Bennington volunteered at the pro-bono
clinic in Family Division and at Legal Aid for Children, now
known as KidsVoice. Currently, Bennington is an associate
for the firm of Pollock Begg Komar Glasser LLC; the firm
focuses on all aspects of family law. In July 2006,
Bennington was selected as a rising star in the practice of
Family Law in the Pennsylvania Super Lawyers Annual
Publication.
Bennington has been a council member of the Allegheny County
Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division since 2003. She
also is a coordinator for the YLD's annual Children's
Holiday Party that provides gifts to children in local
shelters. She was the co-chair of the Women's Bar
Association's public relations committee from 1999 to 2004,
as well as a board member of the Pittsburgh Urban Magnet
Project (2005-2006), Chatham College Alumnae Board (1999 to
2003), and the Pittsburgh Young Professionals (1999 to
2001).
Bennington was born in Pittsburgh in 1976, and is the
daughter of Paula Helsel, a certified registered nurse
anesthetist, and Dr. Joseph Maroon, vice chairman of the
Department of Neurological Surgery, University of Pittsburgh
School of Medicine. Lisa and her husband, Brad Korinski,
also an attorney, reside in Morningside.
Bennington's legislative priorities include affordable
health care, economic development, property tax reduction
and legislative reform.
