Rep. Bennington spoke at a Capitol news conference in favor of legislation that would ensure rape victims who visit emergency rooms are provided comprehensive care including consultation with a rape crisis counselor and accurate, easy-to-understand educational materials. Under the bill (H.B 288), hospitals also would be required to provide information about emergency contraception to the victim, alert her that the hospital can provide it, and to do so if requested by the victim.
