During a recent ceremony at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Desmond Tutu, a South African cleric and activist, was honored for his work as an opponent of apartheid. State Rep. Louise Bishop was one of the distinguished guests who attended the ceremony.  Tutu received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984, the Albert Schweitzer Prize for Humanitarianism, and the Magubela Prize for Liberty in 1986.

State Representative Cherelle Parker, in partnership with Foundations Inc. Job Resource Development Center, hosted the 2008 Youth Summer Employment and Activity Expo for young people who were interested in obtaining summer jobs, attending summer camps or finding volunteering opportunities.  The Expo was held on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the Philadelphia High School for Girls.  There were over 800 youth and their parents and guardians in attendance.
