Prayer delivered at the opening of session, January 21, 2003

Loving Father, our Creator, You have blessed us with another beautiful day and we give thanks unto You.

As we come together to share this historic day, I ask that You fill our hearts with inspiration, gratitude and appreciation for all of Your blessings.

Help us to be strong and courageous as we embark upon a new tenure in the legislature. I ask for Your wisdom and Your guidance as we make steadfast choices for the citizens of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Together we seek Your blessing and favor on the members of the House and Senate as we begin another year of political debate.

Today Lord we gather for the auspicious occasion of swearing in a new Governor, Ed Rendell, and I ask that You will bless him as he takes the oath of office from his beloved wife, Marjorie. Let Your hands be upon him and guide him in ways of truth and justice. Strengthen him for the many difficult duties and challenges that may lie ahead.

Bless our families and friends who are gathered here today to share in these Inauguration ceremonies.

Grant unto us Your blessings and peace.

Hear this, our common prayer.
