Prayer delivered at the opening of session, November 26, 2002
Dear God,
Our Heavenly Father, the creator and sustainer of life for all mankind. Thou who art the ruler of the world to the furtherest star in the universe, we bow humbly in Your presence to offer a prayer of thanksgiving.
As this holiday season approaches us, we are truly grateful for all that You have done. You have kept us strong and prosperous even in times of calamity. While some have suffered hunger and devastation, we have been reaping the harvest. So, thank You for jobs, for health, for prosperity, for peace and harmony.
As we reflect a moment on 9/11, I ask Your blessings upon those families who will celebrate this holiday remembering their loved ones who were lost in that tragedy. Grant unto them Your assurance that all is well. Lift up their bowed down heads and encourage their hearts – there is still hope.
Thanksgiving season is a time of families coming together from all over the land. Many youth will be returning home from colleges all over this Commonwealth and nation. I pray You give them traveling mercy as they unite with their families. Keep them safe.
Lastly, God, I ask Your blessings upon the House of Representatives and all those who are servants of mankind. Bless us individually, bless us collectively, and bless all the people in the Commonwealth that we serve.
As You bless us here on the hill, bless America and all that for which it stands – liberty and justice for all.
