Rep. Bizzarro named to powerful 2017-2018 committees

State Rep. Ryan Bizzarro, D-Erie, today announced that he has been appointed to serve on several key House standing committees for the 2017-2018 legislative session.

The Erie legislator was renamed to the Consumer Affairs and the prestigious Judiciary and Insurance committees. Bizzarro will serve as secretary of the House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness committee and vice-chairman of the Policy committee.

“The committees that I will sit on deal with issues that affect people’s everyday lives,” Bizzarro said. “I am enthusiastically eager to start the new legislative session and work with colleagues from both sides of the aisle for the good of the people.”

Bizzarro said in an age where consumer privacy is constantly threatened, he is looking forward to working on legislation that would safeguard his constituents. The committee also has jurisdiction over the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission as well as many consumer issues. The committee has reviewed bills pertaining to issues such as vehicle lemon law, consumer privacy and contract language.

“First and foremost is my commitment to my constituents and to the people of Pennsylvania so my committee appointments certainly fit the needs and interests of my district,” Bizzarro said.

Bizzarro said the Judiciary Committee is front and center with the pending issue of the governor closing two state prisons.

“I am also committed to ensuring our law enforcement and correctional systems are safe and efficient,” Bizzarro said.

Also, the Insurance Committee reviews legislation that deals with insurance regulation on home, auto and health insurances. The Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee has jurisdiction over the state Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and the Bureau of Emergency Services under the state Department of Health.
