Rep. Bizzarro and members of Erie delegation honor Trevon Jenifer USA gold-medal-winner

State Rep. Ryan Bizzarro, D-Erie, and members of the Erie County delegation honored Trevon Jenifer of Edinboro, a member of Team USA’s gold-medal-winning wheelchair basketball team in the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio De Janeiro.

Bizzarro presented Jenifer with a Pennsylvania House of Representatives citation.

Everyone from Erie County and from Pennsylvania are very proud of Trevon Jenifer who is no stranger to winning medals for the United States,” Bizzarro said. “Trevon’s commitment to excellence and his tremendous service to Erie and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania are both admired and appreciated.”

Jenifer was joined in the House chamber by James Glatch, head coach at Edinboro University, Laura Klass, Trevon’s fiancée, and his daughter, 15-month-old Saraeya Jenifer.

“I wanted to recognize Trevon Jenifer for the significant Olympic milestones in his life,” Bizzarro said. “People are and always will be our greatest asset in life and please know that you are an important member of our team here in Harrisburg and your abilities and contributions are an important part of Erie County.”

Last September, Trevon and Team USA brought home the gold from Brazil, defeating Spain 68 to 52 in the championship, and claiming the team’s overall gold medal and the first since winning gold in Seoul in 1988.

The victory also completed a clean sweep for Team USA basketball in both women’s and men’s basketball at the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.
