Brown’s Spring Fling draws 150 attendees

PHILADELPHIA, May 3 – State Rep. Vanessa Lowery Brown, D-Phila., hosted more than 150 children and adults at her annual Spring Fling on April 13 at Fairmount Park’s Smith Memorial Playground.

Local police departments and fire departments were represented, and Jazzy The Clown entertained all.

The city's Indego Bike Share program offered test bikes to ride. The program offers riders 16 or older the opportunity to rent bikes from numerous locations throughout the city and return them to any other Indego location.

Brown joined the children in a silly hat craft project and then led them on a parade wearing their new hats. Volunteers provided face painting and there was music and dancing, as well.

Families were also encouraged to develop healthy lifestyles, focusing on exercise and diet.

“This is one of my favorite events every year,” Brown said. “I love the excitement of the youth and the celebration of spring weather. I enjoy the chance to go back to my childhood and go down the sliding board at Smith Playground one more time. I was surprised this year when several adults and youth joined me. What a blast!“

Nearly 20 government and community agencies and vendors provided information for families at the event. Among the agencies that partnered with Brown were the Lupus Foundation; Get Healthy Philadelphia; Healthy Start; Sayre Health Center; PECO; Philadelphia YMCA; ADC Kids and the Jubilee School.
