Brown: Fun and entertainment in 2017 Community Day, West Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, May 30 – State Rep. Vanessa Brown, D-Phila., welcomed constituents of the 190th Legislative District to her 2017 Community Day at the Overbrook Beacon Community Empowerment Center in West Philadelphia.

“I’m very excited because families had a day full of fun and entertainment. These events bring the community together and allow us to meet new people,” Brown said. “We celebrated many good things people are doing in the community. I am very proud to offer this event to my constituents for what I hope will be years to come.”

The main entertainment included The Earth Day Kids and Jazzy the Clown. Penn Medicine held exercises and fitness activities and the younger ones enjoyed bounce houses and a jumbo slide. The Crystal Bird Fauset Institute collected signatures for a commemorative stamp for the first female African-American state legislator in the United States.

Brown’s district office staff helped constituents with state-related questions and gave out brochures and booklets. Attendees also had the opportunity to gather information on a variety of state programs such as CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program), the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program, and voter registration.

Congressman Dwight Evans, Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell, Councilman Curtis Jones, Jr., 54th Ward leader Steve Jones, Bishop Benjamin F. Peterson, Jr., and Dr. Damone B. Jones, Sr. participated in the event.

Brown said she wanted to thank the Overbrook Beacon Community Empowerment Center for hosting the event in their new facility, as well as community partners and volunteers.
