Burns: CMU summer program available for high school students

EBENSBURG, Oct. 24 – Carnegie Mellon University is now accepting applications for its prestigious Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Sciences program, state Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, said today.

The five-week summer residential program is open to high school juniors interested in careers in science and math. Scholarships will cover students’ housing, meals and instructional materials.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for Cambria County students who are interested in science, technology or math, and I strongly urge them to apply,” Burns said. “This free program could be the spark that ignites a student’s lifetime love of science and technology and sets them on the path toward a rewarding career.”

The program runs from June 30 to Aug. 3 at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. It accepts a limited number of high school juniors who attend a public, nonpublic and private school or are homeschooled, so Burns urged interested students to apply quickly.

Applications must be emailed no later than Jan. 31, 2019. For instructions on how to apply or further information about the program, visit this link.
