Comitta: Grateful for Governor’s Response to Residents Call for Action

WEST CHESTER, Jan. 3 – The Department of Environmental Protection’s order to temporarily suspend work on the Mariner East 2 pipeline is a win for public safety, said state Rep. Carolyn Comitta, D-Chester.

“I thank the people for speaking loudly and persistently,” she said. “I also thank Governor Tom Wolf for listening to the concerns of our citizens and for making public safety a priority.”

DEP announced today that it issued an order suspending the construction permits associated with the Mariner East 2 pipeline until the permittee, Sunoco, meets the requirements outlined in the order. Sunoco must cease all construction activity on the pipeline project, except for maintenance of erosion controls and limited maintenance of horizontal directional drilling equipment, according to DEP.
