I-80 Update

Conklin opposes Act 44; Turnpike Commission incorporates his EZ-Pass proposal

In Centre County, traveling Interstate 80 is a daily part of our lives, which is why Act 44, which seeks to convert I-80 into a toll road, is bad for this area. Despite my strong opposition to the bill (My 'No' was vote cast July 17, 2007), the bill became law. This plan remains to be approved by the federal government.

In the meantime, the Turnpike Commission has been receptive to my proposals to provide relief to local drivers. My bill to provide a tax credit for E-ZPass drivers has received broad support, and the Turnpike Commission has responded by discussing the possibility of allowing all E-ZPass subscribers free passage when traveling thorough the toll gantry closest to their homes. At this time, however, there are no plans to have toll gantries inside Centre County.

Please continue to visit my site as I track the progress of these plans and work to ensure the best answer for Centre County residents.
