Reps Costa and Vereb honor fallen police officers

State Reps. Dom Costa, D-Allegheny, and Mike Vereb, R-Montgomery, paid tribute to fallen Pennsylvania police officers during a Fraternal Order of Police ceremony held Monday at the Forum auditorium in Harrisburg.

The House adopted H.R. 797 co-sponsored by Costa and Vereb to honor the memory of the hundreds of police officers who gave their lives while in the line of duty. Costa read the resolution before the audience.

As a retired police officer and former Chief of Police for the city of Pittsburgh, Costa said: “It was humbling to attend the memorial service which paid tribute to the fallen members of police departments of cities and towns from across Pennsylvania. It’s the responsibility of all of us to never forget the lives of those lost in the line of duty who have made the ultimate sacrifice so that we can live in a safe society.”

The Allegheny County lawmaker said: “It’s hard for people to understand who haven’t walked in a police officer’s shoes. We in law enforcement, and in the legislature, will not forget our loved ones in the ultimate sacrifice. “We need to keep police officers who have lost their lives in our thoughts and prayers always.”
