Don’t delay- sign up for health care coverage by 2/15
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and there is no better way to show your loved ones you care than making sure your personal and financial well-being is protected with health insurance.
If you do not currently have health insurance, I strongly urge you to consider visiting www.healthcare.gov to enroll by the Feb. 15, 2015 deadline.
Once there, you can choose from over 50 plans and determine if you’re eligible for reduced monthly premiums and out-of-pocket costs. To enroll, you can visit www.healthcare.gov or call 1-800-318-2596 for assistance in selecting the plan that best suits you.
If you don’t enroll by the Feb. 15 deadline, you will not be able to enroll or change plans for 2015 unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period. Major life changes such as marriage, the birth of a child or the loss of health coverage may constitute eligibility for the Special Enrollment Period.
Just this week, Gov. Tom Wolf announced that he will soon expand Medicaid in Pennsylvania under the federal Affordable Care Act. You can find out if you’re eligible for Medicaid when applying through www.healthcare.gov.
Full Medicaid expansion will allow Pennsylvania to:
- Cover hundreds of thousands of uninsured people;
- Create an estimated 35,000 family-sustaining job opportunities;
- Allows the commonwealth to receive $17 billion in federal funding over the next 10 years; and
- Save the commonwealth more than $822 million in uncompensated care costs.
