Health Care Bills

Gov. Ed Rendell signed into law four health-care bills at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill. One of the new laws, which aims to reduce preventable medical errors and improve patient safety, was sponsored by Rep. Tony DeLuca.

Other notable bills signed into law will reauthorize the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council, extend Cobra coverage to small-business workers who lose their jobs and allow uninsured single adult children through age 29 to be covered under their parents’ health insurance plans.

Rep. DeLuca, chairman of the House Insurance Committee, says the new laws are part of a larger House Democratic plan, called Health PAct, designed to reduce health-care costs and make health insurance accessible to more Pennsylvanians of all ages. Joining Rep. DeLuca with Gov. Ed Rendell at the event include Art Mc Nulty, executive director of the House Insurance Committee, state House colleagues and health-care professionals.
