Donatucci to lead Philadelphia Delegation of the Democratic Caucus in state House; 22 members take oath of office

HARRISBURG, Jan. 3 – State Rep. Maria Donatucci, D-Phila./Delaware, was sworn in today for a fourth term representing the 185th Legislative District in the House of Representatives, which consists of portions of the city of Philadelphia, as well as Colwyn Borough, Sharon Hill Borough and part of Darby Township in Delaware County.

"I don’t think I can name a more humbling experience than this," Donatucci said. "Serving the people I represent is a great opportunity and even greater responsibility."

Today’s ceremony marked the beginning of the 2017-18 legislative session. The state constitution mandates that the legislature convene at noon the first Tuesday of January.

In addition, Donatucci will continue to serve as the chairwoman of the Philadelphia County Delegation to the House of Representatives. She was first elected by her Democratic colleagues to serve in this role in April 2016.

Donatucci noted members of the delegation elected Rep. Jason Dawkins as their vice chairman and Rep. Joanna McClinton as the delegation’s secretary/treasurer during a reorganization meeting in November.

"As a delegation, we will continue to devote legislative efforts to making sure our schools, public safety departments, health care facilities, transportation systems and other resources have the means to effectively serve all of our residents," Donatucci said. "I expect that some of those efforts will need to be doubled-down on this year, particularly with education funding."

Donatucci added that four first-term legislators who took the oath of office today are also members of the delegation. They are:

  • Rep. Morgan Cephas, 192nd Legislative District
  • Rep. Isabella Fitzgerald, 203rd Legislative District
  • Rep. Christopher Rabb, 200th Legislative District
  • Rep. Jared Solomon, 202nd Legislative District

"I look forward to working with the entire delegation to better the lives of the more than 1.5 million Philadelphians we are a voice for," Donatucci said. "I think we can all say it's an honor to be able to represent our constituents in collective manner, and to get to work on policies that we can all get behind and use our collective efforts to bring results home."
