Gergely: GOP budget won’t help Pennsylvanians

HARRISBURG, June 27 – Following a negative vote on the Republican created budget bill, state Rep. Marc Gergely issued the following statement:

“For the past four years, we suffered through entirely too many budgets full of smoke and mirrors that didn’t truly help Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, that’s the same type of budget we voted on today.

“The Republican budget does little to fix our structural deficit, properly fund our schools or help homeowners lower their property taxes. This budget totally embraces the failed strategy of the previous administrations budgets. They didn’t work then and they don’t work now.

“Pennsylvanians sounded off at the last election, and what they wanted was clear. They’re concerned with schools that teach, government that works and jobs that pay. This budget provides none of that, and is simply more of the same gimmicks over government we’ve grown accustomed to seeing from the Republicans. I urge Governor Wolf to veto this budget and ask Republican leaders to sit down at the table and negotiate in good faith.”
