Gibbons opposed the $29 million cut in state funding for schools in Beaver, Butler and Lawrence counties that forced school property tax hikes and larger class sizes.

A $1.2 million cut in state funding forced the Ambridge Area School District to raise school property taxes, use 15 fewer teachers in the classroom and eliminate several educational programs, Superintendent Dr. Erv Weischedel told a House Democratic Policy Hearing.  Rep. Gibbons, who voted against the budget, hosted the hearing to explore the impact of reductions in state funding.
