Shredding events rescheduled to Nov. 17

MAHANOY CITY, Nov. 1 – State Rep. Neal P. Goodman and state Sen. David G. Argall have rescheduled two free shredding events to Nov. 17. Mechanical problems forced the cancellation of shredding events the lawmakers had planned to host on Oct. 27.

The first event will be held from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Schuylkill Mall, 830 Schuylkill Mall Road, Frackville, in the parking area by the Sears/Bon-Ton entrance. The second event will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cass Township Municipal Building, 1209 Valley Road, Duncott.

The events are being held to help constituents destroy old financial documents and protect them from identity theft. Constituents may bring personal financial documents that are no longer needed, and any other unneeded papers that contain confidential information, such as:

•           Documents containing Social Security, credit card and bank account numbers;

•           Credit card applications;

•           Canceled or unused checks;

•           Insurance and income tax records;

•           Bank and credit card statements; and

•           Pension information.

All items for shredding should be paper. Participants should not bring items such as three-ring binders, binder clips or plastic of any kind.

The documents will be shredded on-site. All shredded paper will be recycled.

To ensure everyone has an opportunity to shred their documents, attendees must adhere to the three boxes or bags of documents limit.
