Biography

State Rep. Gary Haluska was born March 17, 1950, son of the late Dr. Edward J. Haluska and Margaret Louise (Buck) Haluska. He has one son, Daryl Edward Haluska; three grandchildren, Brennan, Ryan and Ava; and is married to Amy (Wirfel) Haluska of New Germany, Croyle Township, Cambria County.

Haluska represents the 73rd Legislative District, Cambria County, in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. He serves on the Tourism and Recreational Development Committee, the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, the Transportation Committee and the Game and Fisheries Committee. He is one of two House members on the state Hardwoods Development Council and is also one of two House members appointed to a joint House-Senate Task Force on Forestry Issues.

Haluska is the Democratic chairman of the Motorsports Caucus and a member of the Sportsmen’s Caucus, the Timber Caucus, the Coal and Steel Caucus, the Volunteer Firemen’s Caucus, the Bike Caucus, the Italian American Caucus, the Irish Caucus, and the Cigar Caucus.

Haluska graduated in 1968 from Cambria Heights High School and graduated from Williamsport Area Community College in 1970 with an associate's degree in forestry. He is also a former small business owner in Patton, Pennsylvania.

With regard to community service, Haluska has served 30 years as a member of the Patton Volunteer Fire Company, including 10 years as an officer; member of Cambria County Firemen’s Association; member and past president of the Central District Firemen’s Association; member of the Pennsylvania State Firemen’s Association; past president of the Altoona Adult Flag Football League; Pennsylvania Forest Fire Warden since 1979; former president of the Cambria Heights Basketball Boosters; former president of Cambria Heights Quarterback Club; former president of Prince Gallitzin Tourism & Trade Association; member of the board of directors of the Southern Allegheny Travel Council; member of the board of directors of the Seldom Seen Mine tourist attraction; member of the Patton Centennial Committee; board member of the Cambria County Tourist Council; and the chairman of the Rock Run Recreation Area board of directors.
