Hanna announces cultural and historical grant awards

HARRISBURG, May 30 – State Rep. Mike Hanna, D-Clinton/Centre, today announced that both the Clinton and Centre County Historical Societies will each receive $4,000 through the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission’s (PHMC) Cultural and Historical Support grant program.

Hanna said this is the fifth year that the PHMC has provided funding for museums through this program.

“It is important to me to see our local historical societies receive this funding,” Hanna said. “The grant awards allow for continued access to educational resources and opportunities throughout our region.”

In total, $2 million in grants to 141 eligible museums and official county historical societies from 57 Pennsylvania counties met the following criteria:

  • Museums located in Pennsylvania with annual operating budgets exceeding $100,000 (excluding capital and in-kind services) and at least one full-time professional staff person; and
  • Official County Historical Societies designated as the official historical society for the county.

The Cultural and Historical Support grant program is supported by funds in PHMC’s operating budget that are restricted for this purpose only. Applicants must meet organizational eligibility requirements and awards are based on a calculation that uses the operating budget from the most recently completed fiscal year.
