Kavulich, House Democratic Policy Committee to examine proposed Public School Employees Benefit Board Thursday in Dickson City
LACKAWANNA, April 7 – State Rep. Sid Michaels Kavulich, D-Lackawanna, announced today that he will chair a House Democratic Policy Committee hearing to look at his H.B. 348 that would study the cost-effectiveness of a new statewide public school employee health care benefit program.
The hearing will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at the Dickson City Borough Building, Borough Council Room, 901 Enterprise St., Dickson City.
Kavulich requested the hearing and will serve as co-chairman with HDPC Chairman Mike Sturla, D-Lancaster. Kavulich noted that as health care costs in the commonwealth continue to rise, he hopes the legislation would serve as a means to reduce costs and allow teacher contract negotiations to focus more on academic-related matters.
Scheduled testifiers include John Holland, northeastern region field director from the Pennsylvania State Education Association; Brian Rinaldi, business manager at Old Forge School District; and Ron Koldjeski, deputy director of the Lackawanna County Tax Claim Bureau.
Testifiers will also field questions regarding the legislation from Policy Committee members.
