Kavulich statement on Gov. Wolf’s release of school and social service funding
HARRISBURG, Dec. 29 – State Rep. Sid Michaels Kavulich, D-Lackawanna, issued the following statement today concerning Gov. Tom Wolf’s decision to release vital school and social service funding.
“With the governor’s action on the budget today, the much-needed funding for schools and social service agencies in Lackawanna County and across the Commonwealth is in place. However, the bigger picture still remains: we need to reach agreement on a budget that is completed to its fullest.
"What is clear is that we must get back to Harrisburg and do the work that our constituents count on us to do. The governor sent a firm message that the legislature has to resume working on an honest, full-year budget, one that actually balances. We cannot keep passing the buck with unbalanced budgets that force counties and school districts to raise taxes. We can’t keep borrowing from our kids instead of paying the bills.
"I urge my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to get back to Harrisburg, finish this year’s budget and then work towards making sure an impasse of this length never again happens.
"We need the complete House and Senate to come together with a common goal of working for the people of Pennsylvania.”
