Patty Kim named co-chair for 2016 MLK Day of Service
HARRISBURG, Nov. 17 – The Central Pennsylvania Martin Luther King Day of Service Committee named state Rep. Patty Kim, D-Dauphin, co-chair for Harrisburg’s 2016 MLK Day of Service.
Kim said she is honored to serve as a co-chair and plans to continue the positive work of the committee.
“Over the last seven years, a strong foundation has been built to honor Dr. King through our actions on MLK Day,” Kim said. “It’s important to me to continue this tradition of making an impact in our community.”
Melissa Snyder, a founding member of the Central PA MLK Day of Service Committee, said Kim was chosen with Aaron Effiong to serve as a co-chair because she has participated in the MLK Day of Service for years and is a strong advocate for service to the community.
President Bill Clinton signed legislation making the Martin Luther King holiday a national day of service in 1995. Over the past 20 years, millions of people have volunteered across the country on the January holiday.
The Central PA MLK Day of Service Committee was formed in 2009 and hosted its first event at Harrisburg School District in 2010. Community organizations and nonprofits interested in hosting a service project, and interested volunteers, can register to participate on the committee’s website at www.centralpamlkday.org.
