Kinsey comments on latest mass shooting in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 15 – State Rep. Stephen Kinsey, D-Phila., today released this statement following the news of another mass shooting in Philadelphia, this time in his legislative district.

In the span of 24 hours, Philadelphia has experienced two mass shootings that have left 11 people injured, bringing the citywide mass shooting total to eight that has resulted in two fatalities and over 30 people injured,” Kinsey said. "The latest shooting that left five people injured happened in the Ogontz section of my district, less than two miles north of the location of Wednesday's scene of gun violence."

"In our state legislature, there are currently over two-dozen bills that address the root causes of gun violence. We need action now.

“Enough is enough!  I will continue to push for gun safety legislation along with my Democratic colleagues. The mass shootings and gun violence we experience in our communities are tumultuous. Rage, sorrow and agony overwhelm us as we continue to encounter the loss of lives and distress from these horrific incidents of violence."

Tomorrow, Kinsey is sponsoring a unity event along with the 14th Police District in the northwest community. In addition, he is organizing town hall meetings to address gun violence and gun safety.

Kinsey is chairman of the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus.
