DELAWARE COUNTY, Aug. 17 – State Reps. Carol Kazeem and Leanne Krueger, both D-Delaware, today applauded the Shapiro administration for investing more than $360,000 into area schools to promote and purchase fresh produce and vegetables for students. “We know that teaching our kids healthy eating habits from an early age is critical to maintaining a healthy relationship with food for a lifetime,” Kazeem said. “This program funding is a continued investment in Pennsylvania children and dovetails with Governor Shapiro’s free school breakfast initiative.” The funds were awarded under the federal Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program. PHILADELPHIA, July 31 – On the first stop of a statewide tour, educators, advocates, labor leaders and concerned parents joined members of the Pennsylvania House Majority Leadership team and the House Majority Policy Committee in seeking answers to repair and reform funding for public schools. “This is not a Republican issue or a Democratic issue, and it is not a city issue or a rural issue – it’s a Pennsylvania issue,” Speaker of the House Joanna McClinton, D-Phila./Delaware, said. “Equitably funding schools is about investing in Pennsylvania’s future and ensuring that every student regardless of the neighborhood they live in has the tools to thrive academically, socially, and civically. HARRISBURG, July 6 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger, D-Delaware, issued the following statement regarding her vote to support the 2023-24 state budget, which is headed to the desk of Gov. Josh Shapiro. “I made the decision to vote yes on this year’s budget after Governor Shapiro made a public pledge to veto the line item for vouchers that had broad opposition in Delaware County. I voted yes for a $1 billion investment in K-12 public schools, including the largest increase in the Basic Education Funding Formula in Pennsylvania history,” Krueger said. “The recent decision from the Commonwealth Court showed that we need to do a lot more to equitably fund our public schools.” Krueger said state funding increases for the school districts she represents are as follows: Chester Upland School District - $11.4 million (11.1% increase). Penn-Delco School District- $751,003 (7.8% increase). Ridley School District- $2.16 million (11.9 % increase). Rose Tree School District- $542,572 (9.6% increase). Wallingford-Swarthmore- $494,301 (7.6% increase). “I also voted yes to help our seniors,” Krueger said. “Pennsylvania's Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program has been expanded by $136 million, increasing the maximum rebate from $650 to $1,000 and the income eligibility cap to $45,000. Pennsylvania hasn't voted to raise the minimum wage since 2006. Today we changed that when the #PAHouse passed H.B. 1500 to #RaiseTheWage to $11/hour in 2024 – and up to $15/hour by 2026. I hope the PA Senate takes it up quickly. Read more
RIDLEY, June 20 – State Reps. Leanne Krueger and David Delloso, both D-Delaware, released the following statement requesting residents of Ridley Township to report any information on white supremacist literature being spread throughout the community: "We were appalled to learn that literature containing white supremacist language and insignia was distributed in some neighborhoods of Ridley Township over the weekend. HARRISBURG, June 13 – House lawmakers today adopted a resolution ( H.R. 119 ) sponsored by state Rep. Leanne Krueger, D-Delaware, that highlights the issue of plastic waste by designating June 1, 2023 as “Skip the Straw Day” in Pennsylvania. “Four years ago, a class of fourth graders at Wallingford Elementary School reached out to educate me about the impact that plastic pollution in our oceans has on sea turtles,” Krueger said. “Plastics, microplastics and plastic microfibers harm our environment and wildlife and infiltrates our soil, drinking water and the air we breathe. They came up with the idea of this resolution." Krueger said Americans generate waste from an estimated 500 million single-use disposable plastic straws each day. To put this into greater context, 500 million single-use straws is enough to fill over 46,400 full-sized school buses per year; as well as disrupting the well-being of over 1,200 species across the globe. “Broader actions to reduce plastic waste in our great commonwealth must involve larger policy change, as well as small actions like increasing awareness to change behavior. Educating our children about the harmful long-term effects of single-use straws and other plastics to our environment is important."
