Krueger-Braneky releases statement on the passing of Rep. O’Brien
HARRISBURG, Oct. 15 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger-Braneky today issued the following statement on the passing of state Rep. Mike O’Brien.
“Mike O’Brien was a true public servant, who served his district and the commonwealth with tenacity and a deep and abiding humanity. He was a progressive fighter who matched his words -- often fighting words -- with action and heart. Pennsylvania has lost a great one, and I join Mike’s family, friends, and the constituents of the 175th District in mourning.
“When I first joined the Pennsylvania House in the summer of 2015, in the middle of a tense budget fight, Mike immediately welcomed me. As my colleague on the Appropriations Committee, he helped me learn the ropes. Mike was generous with his institutional knowledge and political savvy, but more importantly he always made me laugh -- especially on days when we were fighting uphill battles to protect vulnerable Pennsylvanians. There is no point to public service if you do not care deeply for other people and are not willing to stand up to powerful forces to go to bat for them every day. Mike lived that. I am grateful to have known him and for the blessing of his memory.”
