Krueger applauds $42,000 in funding to provide fresh produce for students

HARRISBURG, Sept. 2 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger, D-Delaware, announced today that two elementary schools in the 161 st Legislative District were awarded grants to provide healthy snacks to children. The following schools will receive funding through the U. S. Department of Agriculture’s Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program : $21,980 for Main Street Elementary School in Chester-Upland School District. $20,020 for Woodlyn Elementary School in Ridley School District. “I am pleased to see this funding allocated for two of our local elementary schools,” said Krueger. “Studies show better nutrition leads to better test scores. This grant will help keep students engaged and focused in the classroom.” Schools with the highest rates of students eligible for free and reduced-price meals were given funding priority. Schools must use the funding to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables and must develop a plan to establish partnerships to reduce other costs. The goal of the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program is to introduce children to fresh fruits and vegetables and encourage healthier school environments by promoting nutrition education. Krueger, Kane to host collection event

John Kane, D-Delaware/Chester, will host a collection event now through Sept. 30 on behalf of the local nonprofit, Individuals Aiding in Emergencies Foundation. Drop off boxes will be placed at three different locations: Brookhaven Borough Building, 2 Cambridge Road, Brookhaven, PA 19015. Aston Municipal Building, 5021 Pennell Road, Aston, PA 19014. Middletown Free Library, 464 S. Krueger to host expungement clinic

FOLSOM, Aug. 8 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger, D-Delaware, will host an expungement clinic to help community members learn if criminal record expungement might be an option for them. The event, in partnership with Legal Aid of Southeastern PA and NAACP Media Area Branch, will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6 at the Brookhaven Municipal Center. Attorneys will provide information about criminal record expungement options and resources, and there will be an opportunity for participants to meet individually with an attorney. If expungement is not an option, additional resources will be offered. “Having a criminal record can create barriers to employment and housing options,” Krueger said. “I was proud to vote for the Clean Slate Law, and we’re working to educate people on how to navigate the expungement process. I’m pleased to be able to hold this event in-person once again this year and I’m grateful to Legal Aid of Southeastern PA and the NAACP Media Area Branch for their involvement.” Registration is required for the event. Krueger applauds traffic safety grant for Aston Township

HARRISBURG, July 14 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger, D-Delaware, announced today that Aston Township was awarded $370,960 in state funding through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s “ Green Light-Go ” program. The funding will be used for the interconnection of traffic signals along Concord Road. “This program helps communities make necessary safety improvements,” Krueger said. “It will help Aston Township relieve congestion and improve traffic flow, which will lead to fewer accidents, keeping our residents safer. I am pleased to see the township receive this state funding.” Green Light-Go grants are provided as reimbursements to municipalities for updates to improve the efficiency and operation of existing traffic signals. Grant funding through the Green Light-Go program may be utilized for a range of operational improvements including, but not limited to, LED technology installation, traffic signal retiming, developing special event plans and monitoring traffic signals, as well as upgrading traffic signals to the latest technologies. Krueger to hold virtual Medicare workshops in July and August

FOLSOM, July 13 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger, D-Delaware, announced today she will host three virtual Medicare Education events in coordination with Delaware County MEDI counselors. The events will take place on the following dates and times: Medicare Cost Sharing: Wednesday, July 20 at 2 p.m. Medicare 101: Monday, Aug. 8 at 11 a.m. Medigap: Wednesday, Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. “The Medicare process can be overwhelming and confusing,” Krueger said. “I am pleased that with the help of Delaware County MEDI counselors, we can continue to offer these sessions to make the process as smooth as possible for participants.” These virtual events are for residents approaching the age of 65 or who plan to enroll in Medicare soon. The presentations cover the various parts of Medicare, the pros and cons of traditional Medicare versus Medicare Advantage Plans, when to sign up for the different parts of Medicare, basics of Supplemental Plans, and extra financial help covering Medicare costs.
