HOUSE DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP LETTERS

Marking a Property Tax Relief Milestone

Critics of our job-creating, tax-cutting slot gaming industry said that 14 slot facilities would never be able to generate the $3 billion in total receipts needed to deliver $1 billion in property tax relief House Democrats fought for.

We're curious what those naysayers think now, since there are only three slot facilities up and running in the state and those three facilities ALONE have already generated $1 billion in receipts!

House Democrats knew that slot gaming would deliver for taxpayers. Our slot gaming law is working, and soon the big winners will be Pennsylvania's homeowners.

An ambitious plan for Pennsylvania's future

This week Governor Ed Rendell offered his proposal for the state's annual budget. We commend him for a bold and ambitious plan that faces the unpleasant fact that we are truly "on our own" and cannot count on the federal government for stable funding.

Cutting property taxes, making sure every Pennsylvanian has access to affordable health care, ensuring safe roads and bridges - the budget addresses ALL these issues, and a whole lot more. Click here to watch House Democrats' reaction  to the governor's address. Plus, you can tune in this Sunday at 2:30 p.m. on the Pennsylvania Cable Network for Pennsylvania's Future: Agenda for Action and join House Majority Whip Keith McCall as he discusses the governor's proposal and what the House Majority Democrats have in mind. The next step

Now that the governor's proposed budget plan is on the books, Majority Appropriations Chairman Rep. Dwight Evans is ready to kick off the House budget hearings that will give legislators and the public input on the final budget legislation. Click here to see what's on deck.
