There are really only three kinds of people who should care about nurses being forced to work mandatory overtime:

2. People who care about nurses

3. People who get sick

This week the House Labor Relations Committee moved Rep. Dan Surra's proposal to end mandatory overtime for nurses, and the bill should be voted next week. Similarly, we all care about volunteer fire and ambulance companies having enough money to maintain operations. Even if you live in a city with paid emergency services, the estimated $6 BILLION per year volunteer services save taxpayers helps your bottom line. For people without paid fire and ambulance companies, volunteers are literally the difference between life and death.

 

House Democrats have led the charge in recent years to help our volunteers keep the trucks, engines and ambulances rolling with a $25 million annual grant program. Now, Rep.
