HOUSE DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP LETTERS
Rep. Bill DeWeese, Majority Leader |
|
House Democrats urge energy independence During the week of Earth Day, Majority House Democrats unveiled proposals to save $10 billion in energy costs, create 35,000 jobs in energy and technology sectors and reduce our reliance on foreign fuels.
Longtime Environmental Resources and Energy Committee Chairman Camille "Bud" George discussed key aspects of the plan, including an Energy Independence Fund, which is endorsed by Gov. Ed Rendell. Click here to listen to Chairman George discuss the energy independence package.
Other portions of the package would: * Speed development of energy initiatives (prime sponsor Rep. Eugene DePasquale, D-York) * Promote cleaner and cheaper domestic fuel sources (prime sponsor Rep. Mike Gerber, D-Montgomery) * Encourage alternative energy sources (prime sponsor Rep. John Hornaman, D-Erie)
Under House Democrats' leadership, Pennsylvania is becoming a vivid example of the tremendous benefits that can be realized by refocusing our priorities on clean, advanced, indigenous energy resources.
