HOUSE DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP LETTERS
May 25, 2007

Rep. Bill DeWeese, Majority Leader
Rep. Keith McCall, Majority Whip

Democrats move responsible, tax-free budget

A united House Democratic Caucus advanced a state budget that does not raise taxes, yet reflects our commitment to children, health care for working families and seniors, and being good stewards of the environment. It's a responsible first step that puts us on track to adopt a sensible budget by June 30 - a feat that eluded our Republican colleagues for the last four years..

This is the first budget for the new Democratic Majority, and we're proud to have opened the process to more people than have been involved in a decade. House Democrats have a strong sense of the priorities that need to be met for all Pennsylvanians -- Click here to learn more about these priorities from lawmakers -- and will remain united to achieve these goals.

Democrats deliver for patients and nurses

House Democrats stood up as one for all of us who rely on hard working nurses across the Commonwealth. Putting an end to mandatory overtime that forces nurses to work 14-, 16-, even 18-hour days is a step toward assuring fewer medical errors and better patient care, not to mention a relief for the harried nurses who endure the wearisome shifts. Click here to hear what House Democrats had to say about protecting nurses.

The House overwhelmingly passed Rep. Dan Surra's H.B. 834. Now it's up to the Senate to do the right thing. Click here to tell your Senator to vote yes on H.B. 834 and send it to the governor to sign into law.
