HOUSE DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP LETTERS
Rep. Bill DeWeese, Majority Leader |

Focusing on energy independence
As the General Assembly begins its Special Session on Energy next week, the latest edition of the House Democrats'
i on Pennsylvania takes a look at House Democratic proposals that encourage the use of alternative energy sources. From renewable fuels to tax credits for those who "go green," we believe the Commonwealth can become a nationwide leader in reducing our dependence on oil from the Middle East.
We also beg to differ with House Republicans who this week said, "Pennsylvanians need to remember that rates have not increased for 10 years. Nobody has any idea what's going to happen," as reason for not addressing the rising costs of energy.
Last year, Pike County residents saw their electric bills skyrocket by 73 percent and the stories below make it clear that rates ARE in fact rising and something must be done to help Pennsylvanians afford their energy bills.
