HOUSE DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP LETTERS
Rep. Bill DeWeese, Majority Leader |
|
Don't let the CHIPs fall Improving health care for all Pennsylvanians will always be a top priority for the House Democrats. We created the Children's Health Insurance Program from our majority post in 1992 and worked throughout the years to make sure it truly benefitted our children. Now, 15 years later, the Bush administration is working hard to undo that progress by threatening to veto CHIP reauthorization and by creating rules that will make it harder to help the children we've fought so hard to insure. We won't let it happen. Governor Ed Rendell announced this week he will sponsor CHIP enrollment booths at various locations in the state. Since 1992, House Democrats have enrolled and continue to enroll thousands of children at our local constituent service offices. If you or someone you know needs health insurance for a child, please contact us. CHIP was created to really leave no child behind...let's keep it that way.
Jonas Salk would approve
Speaking of health, we're still waiting on the Senate Republicans to act on our legislation (H.B. 1142) that would help Pa.'s biomedical research facilities find cures for deadly diseases like cancer and Alzheimer's. So are the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Scranton Times, who this week agreed that it's time for Pennsylvania to start thinking and acting like Jonas Salk again. Visit our action center to send those same sentiments to the Senate.
Energized for energy
The lights went on in the House and Senate this week when both chambers opened the Special Session on Energy. Bills are now being introduced and the debate to move us toward energy independence will begin next week and continue throughout the fall. House Democrats are happy to offer LIVE streaming video with Closed Captioning of House session, and you can watch it HERE.
