Rep. Madden appointed to lead Subcommittee on Recreation

State Rep Maureen Madden, D-Monroe, recently was appointed Democratic chairwoman of the House Tourism and Recreational Development Committee’s Subcommittee on Recreation for the 2019-20 legislative session.

Madden said tourism is a $40 billion industry in Pennsylvania and Monroe County contributes to that.

“I am thrilled to be named chair of the Recreation Subcommittee,” Madden said. “I represent Monroe County and we are in the heart of the Poconos where people visit from in and out of state to ski our slopes, visit our water parks and casinos, shop at our stores and go to our state parks, so I will continue to build on what we already have in the tourism industry.”

House Democratic Leader Frank Dermody, D-Allegheny, said Madden was appointed to the committee because she fully supports and promotes the tourism industry, not only in Monroe County, but across the state.

“Maureen Madden has earned this new leadership role and its responsibility,” Dermody said. “She puts people first and makes sure that Monroe County has a strong voice in Harrisburg.”

Rep. Mark Longietti is Democratic chairman of the House Tourism and Recreation Development Committee.

“Representative Madden works with great dedication and energy to broaden resources and enhance life for the residents of her district,” Longietti said. “I’m delighted that she will chair the Subcommittee on Recreation because I know she will bring that same enthusiasm and diligence to the work of developing and promoting the commonwealth’s many recreational opportunities.”

Madden said when tourism thrives, so does our financial outlook in Pennsylvania.
