Madden, McNeill to hold news conference on pet leasing bill Sept. 12 in Stroudsburg

STROUDSBURG, Sept. 7 – State Reps. Maureen Madden, D-Monroe and Jeanne McNeill D- Lehigh, are holding a news conference on their pet safety legislation 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12 at the Animal Welfare Society of Monroe County (AWSOM), 3129 Godfrey Ridge Drive, Stroudsburg.

Special guest speaker will be Kristen Tullo, Humane Society of the United States state director.

Sandy Fellin, president of AWSOM, will also attend.

The representatives want to stop pet stores from luring customers to buy a cute but expensive pet. They say customers sign what they believe is a loan that will allow them to make monthly payments, only to discover it’s not really a loan, but a lease.

Other states such as California and Nevada have enacted legislation to ban the practice and similar legislation is currently awaiting consideration in the New York legislature.

For more information contact Madden’s office at (570) 420-2850.

The media is invited to attend.
