Brewster, Markosek announce $123,665 in grants awarded to North Versailles, Monroeville for sewer line upgrades

HARRISBURG, March 29 – State Rep. Joseph Markosek, D-Allegheny, and state Sen. Jim Brewster, D-Allegheny/Westmoreland, today announced the award of a $94,550 state grant to the Monroeville Municipal Authority and a $29,115 grant to the North Versailles Township Sanitary Authority for sanitary sewer line improvements.

“The new funding for the sewer rehabilitation projects in Monroeville and North Versailles will be used to pay for critical upgrades that will help the communities and lessen the need to raise funds locally,” Brewster said. “I am pleased that the funding was approved. We will continue to work to ensure that state resources are targeted to our area so that local costs can be defrayed and our quality of life improved.”

“This state funding provides a boost to help make these projects a reality,” Markosek said. “Maintaining and improving our vital infrastructure in the 25th Legislative District and throughout the commonwealth is a wise investment for residents, plus the current and future growth of our communities.”

Markosek said the Monroeville project will improve the Dirty Camp Run sewer system in Pitcairn by rehabilitating 5,500 linear feet of line and related manholes with structural defects and eliminating ground water infiltration. The total project cost is $482,007.

The North Versailles project will replace 523 linear feet of sewer line and related manholes, and help to prevent storm water from entering the system while eliminating major sags that allow grease and solids to settle and block the line. Total project cost is $148,462.

The state grant arrives through the Department of Community and Economic Development’s PA Small Water and Sewer grant program, which funds activities to assist with the construction, improvement, expansion, or rehabilitation or repair of a water supply or sanitary sewer system.

Eligible projects must have a total project cost between $30,000 and $500,000, and funding is available for municipalities and municipal authorities.
