Keith McCall has served the people of Carbon County since 1982 when he was elected to fill the vacancy left in the General Assembly by the death of his father – Rep. Thomas McCall -- and was chosen by his peers in 2006 to serve as the Majority Whip, the second-ranked position in the Majority Democratic Caucus charged with making sure the issues that matter to working families get the support of the entire membership. A lifelong resident of Carbon County, Keith has never lost sight of the small-town values even as he works to bring high-tech jobs and major economic development to the rapidly growing region. In his previous service as Minority Chairman of the Consumer Affairs and Transportation committees he earned the reputation as a hard-working lawmaker who always stands up for the little guy, and who always puts Carbon County first for the state support the county needs and deserves. He has obtained millions of dollars in community development funds to provide for the development of the Greenwood Industrial Park. He also authored the legislation to provide for over $55 million to improve railroad infrastructure in Pennsylvania, which in turn allowed for the creation of over 20,000 new jobs in construction- and transportation-related industries. An avid outdoorsman, Keith McCall has worked hard to turn Lehigh Gorge State Park into one of the jewels of the state park system. Outdoor sports enthusiasts travel to Carbon County from all over the state and the nation to enjoy the rafting, climbing and cycling on area trails and hunters and anglers know that Carbon County is one the best destinations year-round. Keith fought to bring home funding for construction of a visitor center in White Haven for the Delaware and Lehigh Navigation Canal National Heritage Corridor and improved launch sites on the Lehigh River within the park. He has also obtained funds for the preservation and development of the numerous historic sites in his district, including the Jim Thorpe downtown district that has been featured in travel magazines nationwide. Keith McCall knows that small businesses create the majority of the state’s jobs, and he has always fought hard to help small businesses in the state with grant money and with a dedication to a complete transportation system that gets workers to the job and produced goods shipped out affordable. Keith authored the legislation that delivered more than $55 million to improve railroad infrastructure in Pennsylvania, creating tens of thousands of jobs at industrial sites around the state. Keith was born December 16, 1959 in Coaldale, PA, the youngest son of Mary Ann Guardiani McCall and the late state Rep. Thomas J. McCall. He is married to the former Betty Wehr. They are the proud parents of two children, a daughter, Courtney, and a son, Keith II. McCall graduated from Marian Catholic High School and attended Penn State University and Harrisburg Area Community College. He began his public service by fighting to make sure tax dollars were spent wisely as a field auditor with the state Department of Auditor General. In his district, he is a member of the Summit Hill Lions the Summit Hill Diligence Fire Company, the Knights of Columbus the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Carbon Schuylkill Industrial Development Authority. He is a founding/charter member of the Panther Valley Renaissance, the Carbon County Partners for Progress and the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce. He also serves on the Schuylkill Industrial Development Authority; and is a past president of the Panther Valley Irish-American Association. |
