Rep. Brandon Neuman
48th Legislative District
Washington County
Biography

Brandon Neuman was elected in 2010 to the state House of Representatives to serve the 48th Legislative District. A lifelong resident of North Strabane Township, Rep. Neuman is deeply rooted in the community and puts forth a strong voice in Harrisburg for the people of Washington County.

His legislative priorities include local job creation, keeping property taxes low, and preserving funding for public education.

Rep. Neuman is also a strong advocate for children and youth in Pennsylvania.

After being appointed to the Washington County Children and Youth Task Force in 2012, he recognized the need to strengthen and reform Pennsylvania's children and youth laws. He introduced several bills to better protect abused and neglected children, including a bill to increase the time period in which children and youth agencies can conduct unannounced inspections of a child’s living situation.

He has joined a national campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of concussion-related injuries among student athletes. His legislation would require each student athlete to receive a baseline concussion screening at the start of the season so coaches and parents could more accurately assess whether a student has sustained a concussion.

In addition to his efforts for children, Rep. Neuman is working to protect consumers from Internet predators and would-be identity thieves. He has received bipartisan support on his bill to ban a practice known as "phishing," in which Internet predators pretend to be legitimate businesses to steal personal identity information.

At home, Rep. Neuman has shown a commitment and passion for engaging the public he serves. He is especially active with school-age children, often visiting local school districts and speaking out against prevalent issues, including as teen bullying and teen dating violence. Recognizing that the downturn in the economy also adversely affected teenage workers, Rep. Neuman took on this issue by hosting a widely recognized youth jobs forum in November 2011, the first of its kind in Pennsylvania.

He is also a friend to the local business community and values the economic development those companies bring to Washington County. He has toured regional facilities, including Aquatech International, Inc., Gardner Denver Nash facility at Alta Vista Park, All Clad Cookware, and numerous Marcellus Shale and natural gas-related industries in the community.

In 2011, Rep. Neuman also was appointed to the Pittsburgh EQT Three Rivers Regatta Board. The annual weekend-long event is considered one of the largest inland regattas in the nation and provides community attractions that include powerboat racing, a fireworks display, and a variety of land, air and water entertainment features. He also serves on the ARC of Washington County Board of Directors and the Board of Governors for the Duquesne Law School Alumni Association.

Rep. Neuman is a graduate of Canon-McMillan High School and the University of Richmond. An avid athlete, Rep. Neuman played football, baseball and wrestled throughout high school, and was captain of the football team in college. He went on to receive his master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and a juris doctorate from the Duquesne University School of Law. He and his wife Carrie reside in North Strabane Township.
