Governor presents jobs-focused budget while GOP stomps away

Gov. Tom Wolf this week presented his 2018-19 budget proposal to a joint session of the General Assembly and the public. I welcome his proposal that contains many goals of the House Democrats’ Plan4PA and carries forward my top priorities, including good-paying jobs, workforce training and making sure our kids have the school resources they need to succeed.

As Democratic Chairman of the House Urban Affairs Committee and a member of the Appropriations Committee, I plan to use my voice and my vote to make sure the values and priorities of the middle-class remain in focus and that government works for you.

Speaking of working for you … the Republican majority isn’t. There’s no other way to say it.

Given that I wasn’t called to Harrisburg to work today, the legislature will not meet the deadline to pass a new congressional map to comply with a recent Pennsylvania Supreme Court redistricting reform ruling. The Republican majority refuses to acknowledge the fact they’ve drawn districts to serve their own interests or work in any way to fix our heavily gerrymandered state. Instead of drawing fair maps, Republicans are calling for the impeachment of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court justices that correctly ruled their previous shenanigans unconstitutional.

I’ll keep you updated on how things progress.
