O’Brien announces $458,000 state solar grant for 'SoNo' project

PHILADELPHIA, March 16 – State Rep. Mike O’Brien, D-Phila., today announced approval of a $458,304 state grant to install a 739-kilowatt solar system on the roof of the new "SoNo" retail project.

"I'm a strong supporter of clean energy, and this grant will also help with redeveloping the former Destination Maternity warehouse at Fifth and Spring Garden streets. It's a win-win," O'Brien said.

Air Dynamics Industrial System Corp. will provide $1.02 million in matching funds. The system is expected to generate 943,800 kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, which is expected to be bought by the city of Philadelphia Archives, Yards Brewery and Target Corp.

The grant is being provided to Alliance HSP Philadelphia Warehouse, LP, through the Solar Energy Program of the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
