O’Mara sworn in for first term as state representative

HARRISBURG, Jan. 1 – State Rep. Jennifer O’Mara today was sworn in to office during a Capitol ceremony for her first term as state representative for the 165th Legislative District.

The Pennsylvania House of Representatives swearing-in corresponds with the first Tuesday in January every two years. This year is Pennsylvania’s 203rd legislative session.

“Today we begin the work of ensuring that every Pennsylvanian has a government that serves their needs – not special interests,” O’Mara said. “I am grateful to the people of the 165th district for entrusting me with this office, and I am committed to creating practical solutions for our greatest challenges in state government.

“Delaware County is where I developed my dedication to public service when my family was able to survive after losing my father to suicide. Thanks to excellent public services, my father’s union pension, strong public schools and my mother’s union job, we made it through. I believe that everyone should have those same opportunities and will fight to protect and expand them in the new legislative session.”

Prior to her election to the state House, O’Mara worked nearly seven years at the University of Pennsylvania. O’Mara served as the assistant director of university stewardship, working alongside her colleagues to ensure that attending the university remained affordable for students. O’Mara also is a member of the Board of Directors for Pennsylvania Association of Student Councils and lives in Springfield with her husband.

O’Mara said she is committed to improving public education for Pennsylvania’s children, protecting communities from the dangers of gun violence, ensuring access to affordable health care, and expanding job opportunities at all skill levels.

Her efforts blend with the broader Plan for PA, which seeks to build a stronger economy for working families instead of serving special interests.
