Freshman Rep. O’Mara to serve on Transportation, Veterans Affairs and Aging committees

HARRISBURG, Jan. 28 – Freshman state Rep. Jennifer O’Mara, D-Delaware, has been assigned to serve on three of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives’ most important committees –

Transportation, Aging and Older Adult Services, and Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness.

"All of these committees speak directly to the concerns of residents in my district and I'm looking forward to influencing legislation that will directly improve the lives of my constituents," she said.

On being appointed to the powerful Transportation Committee, O’Mara said, “Improving infrastructure is key to improving the economy and quality of life in the southeast." On being appointed to the Aging & Older Adult Services Committee, O’Mara commented, “Pennsylvania must prepare its network of services for the aging to meet the demands of this rapidly growing segment of Pennsylvania’s population. I am honored that I can contribute to the committee’s guidance to the commonwealth on how to better serve our seniors."

O’Mara said her gratitude to Pennsylvania’s veterans and first responders was the reason her appointment to the Veterans and Emergency Preparedness Committee was one she most highly sought. "This committee puts me in a position to ensure that the commonwealth provides services and assistance to Pennsylvania’s veterans and their families. They gave so much so that we could enjoy our freedoms,” O’Mara continued, "and it is imperative that we make sure the state serves their needs well.”

Recently, O’Mara was elected to serve as vice chair for freshmen and the first vice chair for the House Democratic Southeast Delegation. The Southeast Delegation is the PA House’s largest delegation, comprising legislators from Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, Berks, Lancaster, York and Dauphin counties O’Mara represents the 165th Legislative District in Delaware County and was sworn in Jan. 1.
