Harkins announces committee assignments
HARRISBURG, Jan. 28 – State Rep. Pat Harkins, D-Erie, has been appointed by House Speaker Keith McCall to four standing committees for the 2009-10 legislative session.
Harkins will serve as secretary of the House Children and Youth Committee and has been appointed to serve on the Education, Labor Relations and Liquor Control committees.
"As a former member of the Teamsters union, I understand the challenges facing the working men and women of Erie County and I will be a strong voice for them on the Labor Relations Committee," Harkins said.
Harkins also said he was pleased to be reappointed to the Children and Youth, and Education committees.
"My wife and I are raising three young children and, like all parents in the Commonwealth, we want to make sure they get the best education possible," Harkins said. "I will do my part at the table of these two committees to put the best interests of Erie's children – and all Pennsylvania children -- at the forefront."
