Longietti reminds residents that Property Tax/Rent Rebate applications are now available
HARRISBURG, Feb. 17 – State Rep. Mark Longietti, D-Mercer, reminds residents that the applications for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program are now available.
The PTRR Program provides senior citizens and other qualifying residents with state rebates on property taxes or rent paid in 2009. The maximum rebate a homeowner or renter can receive is $650. In addition, eligible homeowners who pay 15 percent or more of their income in property taxes receive an additional $325, bringing their maximum rebate to $975.
"Last year a record 588,638 homeowners and renters across the state benefited from this program," Longietti said. "I encourage all Mercer County residents who received a rebate last year or who believe they may qualify to apply."
Rebates are available to income-eligible Pennsylvanians who are 65 or older, a widow or widower 50 or older, and 18 or older with a permanent disability. The income limit for these Pennsylvanians is $35,000 for homeowners and $15,000 for renters, excluding half of Social Security or federal railroad retirement income.
The deadline to apply is June 30. Rebates will be distributed beginning July 1.
Longietti said forms are available at his office at 2213 Shenango Valley Freeway, Unit 2-E, Hermitage, and his staff can assist constituents in completing them. His office can be reached at 724-981-4655.
