Longietti announces $1.5 million low-interest loan to fix Shenango dam
HERMITAGE, July 20 – State Rep. Mark Longietti announced that Aqua Pennsylvania received a $1.5 million low-interest Pennvest loan to repair a deteriorating dam on the Shenango River.
"This loan will help eliminate a safety hazard and protect the drinking water supply for 55,000 people," said Longietti, D-Mercer. "The 1 percent interest rate over 20 years on the loan will help keep project costs down."
The company plans to repair the Shenango Intake Dam, which was built in 1927 to create a pool for Aqua Pennsylvania's filtration plant. The repairs also will eliminate turbulence that has led to two drowning and other accidents.
Pennvest is an independent state agency that provides money from a variety of programs created by the General Assembly to fund municipal sewer, storm water and drinking water projects in Pennsylvania.
