Longietti announces more than $6,000 in sewage grants

HARRISBURG, Nov. 17 – State Rep. Mark Longietti announced that the Mercer County Joint Sewage Agency and the city of Hermitage will receive grants to help pay for sewage system inspection and permitting duties.

Local governments are required to inspect and permit on-lot and community sewage systems under a state law passed in 1966. The law includes grant funding to help reduce the cost of these permitting and enforcement activities for local governments and taxpayers.

Mercer's County Joint Sewage Authority will receive $5,953 and Hermitage will receive $269.

Longietti, D-Mercer, said the state funding will reimburse the municipalities for approximately 42 percent of their costs of performing the sewage inspection, permitting and enforcement provisions in state law. The grant program is administered by the state Department of Environmental Protection.
