Sainato announces House scholarships for Pennsylvania students
HARRISBURG, Feb. 5 – State Rep. Chris Sainato, D- Lawrence/Beaver, has announced that applications for the 2007-08 Pennsylvania House of Representatives Scholarship are now available at his constituent service office.
Sainato said the program awards hard-working students with money to help pay for college.
“The bipartisan House Scholarship program rewards exceptional student scholars so they can reach their education goal,” Sainato said. “I support this student recognition and assistance program.”
Sainato said House Scholarship applications are scored and reviewed based on a personal essay and demonstration of leadership qualities, a commitment to the community, academic achievement, financial need and involvement in extra-curricular activities.
This year’s essay topic is as follows: “Pennsylvania’s Capitol celebrated its 100th anniversary in October of 2006. Discuss a remarkable event that occurred in the House of Representatives in that building between 1906 and 2006.”
Each scholarship grant, which can be renewed for four years of college, consists of the value of one semester of tuition at a State System of Higher Education school, which was $2,500 for the academic year 2006-07. This year’s scholarship amount will be determined later this year.
Sainato said another benefit of the award is that students may be eligible for matching funds from the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency.
This year’s scholarship application deadline is April 13. Eighteen scholarships will be awarded by June. More information about the scholarship program can be obtained at www.pahousescholarship.com or www.tfec.com
