Sainato: Deadline to file FAFSA is May 1
NEW CASTLE, April 18 – State Rep. Chris Sainato, D-Lawrence/Beaver, is reminding college-bound students that the deadline to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid is May 1.
The FAFSA is a free application used to determine if students qualify for almost all forms of need-based financial aid, including the federal Pell Grant, Pennsylvania State Grant, institutional awards, low-cost student loans and many scholarships.
"It is in the best interest of my constituents applying for federal and state student aid to find out if they qualify for grants or scholarships, "Sainato said.
Sainato said students can visit www.pheaa.org/fafsa to access the FAFSA application and obtain instructions. Students can also file online at www.educationplanner.org or www.fafsa.ed.gov
Sainato urges students and families to apply for college financial aid online because it is quicker and easier. Paper FAFSAs will only be sent to people who request them by calling 1-800-443-3243.
